Why stop hitting the snooze button and what to do instead?

Do you think letting yourself sleep a couple of minutes more is good for you?

Nope, it’s not.

In fact you train yourself to ignore the alarm. You prepare yourself mentally NOT to wake up at your desired time

You do not gain recharging deep sleep, you gain only a couple of minutes of light sleep (if any)

The sound of the alarm surprises and hits you several times (even if it’s a pleasant noise), not just once – this stress is totally unnecessary for you

Waking up in light sleep may make you feel even more tired (you tried to avoid this in the first place…)

You shorten your sleep voluntarily by setting the alarm earlier

5 practical tips for better mornings

1. Positive motivation

Train yourself for something positive to wake up to every day: prepare mentally for stuff that motivate you (e.g. lovely smell of coffee, a nice view from the window, yoga/workout, morning journaling or

anything you are enthusiastic about – these might also be your job or kids, hopefully ;-).

2. Make the decision and assure yourself

Before going to sleep tell yourself how many hours you will sleep and why: to recharge, heal and get ready for the new day.

Also tell yourself that you wish and will get all the sleep you need in this period, however short it is!

3. Customized alarm

Set customized alarm music or mp3 if you have the chance.

This could be your favourite morning radio show, an mp3 recording prepared by you with inspiring songs or just set your phone to nature sounds like birds chirping.

4. Relaxation – easier start

Start a brief morning relaxation right away and ensure yourself of starting the day fresh.

If you are afraid of dozing off again, sit up straight and use comfortable pillows for back and arm support.

5. Positive affirmations

Use morning affirmations or mantras of motivation to start the day with a healthy, motivated mindset:

“I will make a difference today”

“Today has countless possibilities”

“Toda I surround myself with a bubble of peaceful energy”

“I attract healthy relationships”
